Alvin Hall has his own rags-to-riches story. He grew up on in Florida, did well at school and was the first person in his family to go to university. After that, he worked as a teacher. He was excited about earning a wage for the first time, and soon found it hard to control his spending. He ran up big bills that he couldn't afford to pay. But Alvin didn't hide from the problem. Instead, he took on an extra job and followed some basic rules. Gradually he got back in control and he hasn't had a single money problem since! Alvin now runs a financial services training company. He has presented many TV programmes including the award-winning Your Money or Your Life and The Apprentice You're Fired. His books include Your Money or Your Life (winner of the 2003 WHSmith People's Choice Best Business Book award) and What Not To Spend. He lives in New York.
