Little Wombat had such a cold and kept everyone awake with his coughing. The other wombats were exhausted from digging and foraging through the night and they got very grumpy! Big Red offered to care for Little Wombat so the others could get some sleep. Wombat wasn t used to sleeping above ground and was scared of all the day time noises. Big Red told him stories about the day animals and wombat started having wonderful dreams, which he shared with all the other wombats. When Little Wombat got over his cold he went back to sleep underground, but his dreams stopped. With a little help from the Bush Mob, an above-ground dreaming den was built for Little Wombat. He was now the dreamer of the wombats.
These stories emphasise the value of respect for First Nations culture and country, as well as the importance of courage, perseverance and wisdom to bind communities together. The theme for this book in the series is the importance of community and storytelling. And, of course, dreaming.
