Walter Ralegh

Sir Walter Ralegh (1554-1618) made his name in the court of Elizabeth I through his naval exploits. Constantly troubled by the vaguaries of court, Sir Walter fell in and out of favour with Queen Elizabeth before being imprisoned by her successor, James I. Shortly after his release in he was beheaded following a disastrous mission to 'Guiana'.
