Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873)

Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu was an Irish writer of Gothic and mystery fiction. He studied law at Trinity College in Dublin, but never practiced instead he became a journalist. One of the most prolific and successful ghost story writers of the nineteenth century, he inspired Bram Stoker to writer Dracula. Some of his best known works include Uncle Silas, Carmilla and The House by the Churchyard. He died in Dublin, aged 58.
