The award-winning composer Marin Alsop made history as the first woman to lead major orchestras in the United States, South America, Austria, and Great Britain. She has led, among others, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. A student of Leonard Bernstein, Alsop has been honored with a MacArthur Fellowship and has been inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame.
