Apply for the Whitireia Graduate Diploma in Publishing
This exclusive programme, in partnership with The Publishers Association of New Zealand/Te Rau o Tākupu, is Aotearoa’s only full-time, industry-led qualification in publishing.
Through apprenticeship-style learning, the Graduate Diploma in Publishing teaches all the necessary skills to join the publishing industry. Students take real-world manuscripts and work on them through to publication – managing, editing, typesetting and marketing the books with support from outstanding kaimahi.
At the end of the programme, three internships are available and over recent years, at least 75% of graduates have joined publishing or publishing-adjacent work within six months of graduation.
We would love for you to be a part of next year’s ākonga, but get in quick, there are only 20 spaces available.
Each student also completes two work placements in real publishing environments, giving them valuable insight into the industry.
Here at Hachette Aotearoa NZ we are massive fans of the brilliant work that happens in the Whitireia Publishing course and we host up to two students on their placements every year.
Across product, marketing and more, a huge 35% of our team are Whitireia graduates. Plus, our Marketing Manager, Sacha, hosts three Marketing sessions based on real world campaigns each year.
My year at Whitireia opened the door to lots of wonderful opportunities and introduced me to so many amazing people. I loved studying publishing, and it’s led to a dream career working as editor on an incredible list of books alongside hugely talented coworkers, authors and freelancers. I couldn’t recommend the course more to those passionate about publishing and communications.
